Treatment
Our group found it quite difficult to select a title so we mind mapped the ideas that we had and came up with:
He's The One
It's Owen
All That Jazz
Never Gonna Be The Same
We decided that the title of our film should be 'He's The One'. So we constructed the plot to the film around the title. The genre of our film is a Chick Flick or a Rom-Com with teenagers as it shows the ordeals attempted to try and create a love story.
The whole film is about a girl called Lisa that is new to a school called 'Alberto High' and she finds it quite hard at first to fit in with a social group. But she finds herself being strongly attracted to a boy called Owen. She isn't obsessed with him but she feels like she could have a future with him. Later on in her school life she finally fits in with a social group that are very friendly towards her and they tell eachother secrets and gossip about eachother. Lisa starts to become close friends with one of the girls called Katie. Due to their close connection Katie feels that she can tell Lisa anything and she wouldn't tell a soul. So Katie tells Lisa that she really likes Owen, who is the same person that Lisa likes but Katie doesn't know. Whenever Lisa is talking to Owen she feels like it is only Owen and Lisa in the school and so she ends up forgetting that Katie likes Owen as well. So Owen and Lisa start becoming closer and then they go on a secret date without anyone knowing. But the next day at school Katie over hears Lisa telling Owen that "Last night was amazing" and she becomes annoyed and realises how close Lisa and Owen are becoming. She turns nasty and bitter towards Lisa but Lisa doesn't understand why, still forgetting that Katie likes Owen as well. Later on that day is a talent show and Lisa goes to sit next to Katie but Katies tells her that the rest of the row (around 8 seats) is reserved for other people so Lisa goes and sits on the other side of the hall. Owen then goes on stage to do a surprise performance, before he performs, he dedicates his guitar accompanied piece to Lisa. Katie gets even more angry at Lisa and then when the performance is finished, Owen, in front of everyone watching, asks Lisa to be his girlfriend, but Katie stands up and objects to it causing a big scene. Then her and Lisa begiin to fight as Lisa doesn't want Katie to sabotage her chance of happiness. After the fight Katie and Lisa discuss their differences and try to put them behind them and become friends again through MSN. So the next day Lisa tells Owen that they can't be together as it will cause too much conflict between her and other people and she wnats to be friends with people not enemies. And the film ends.
Our film is a closed narrative as it ends with a definitive ending whereas other films may end with an open narrative causing their to be a part 2 to the sequel. The opening sequence of the film shows Lisa just entering the school and showing how lonely she is and showing images of what she does in her spare time e.g images of the doodling she has done, her pencil case spilt all over the table, her walking and working by herself and her gazing at Owen.
The target audience of our film is young teenagers between the ages of 13 and 20 mainly female. We have decided this because the actors and actresses that are starring in it are all teenagers within this age group and a teenage female target audience may be able to relate to the charcaters more as they could've had similar experiences to them.
The opening credits would also appeal to this target audience because the typography of the credits is Pink and Pink is stereotypically associated with girls and the font is smooth and it looks as though it has been written which would appeal to alot of younger girls. The typography of the opening credits would also give clues to the target audience about the genre of the film. The colour pink is typically associated with teenage girls that are over feminine and so the film must be something involving extremely feminine girls eg (Rom-Com, Chick Flick, Teenage Romance).
The opening credits include still camera establishing images of objects that set the scene and give the audience a sense of what is included throughout the film. For example, above there is a close up of a pencil case with spilled pens and pencils. This connotes that the girls emotions are often spilled out onto paper using the equipment shown. then further on we are shown that this is the case. There are also medium shots of the location with the main character's belongings as if it was abandoned. In a way it connotes an enigma code as we are not shown the main character yet we are only shown her belongings. However the abandoning of her belongings contrasts the way she feels about peers at that time because she doesn't have any friends so she feels left out and abandoned in the beginning. The images used for the credits to appear also tell a story about the kind of person the main charcter is. We see an image of the doodling she does in her school books of the boy she dreams about which tells the audience that she may be a bit besotted with the boy she likes and that is all she can think about. Then when the credits are over we hear the voice of our main character explaining her story to the audience then we see a medium shot of our main charcter doodling then the opinions made of her by the audience throughout the credits would've been supported as she seems to be truly besotted with the boy and she explains why. Further into the film there is an additive dissolve into a long shot where our main character (Lisa) is by herself walking down a set of stairs, which also supports the opinions of the audience that she doesn't really have any friends to associate herself with and so she in a way does feel abandoned. In our film opening we have mainly used additive dissoles and cross fades, although we also reversed the speed of one part to recreate the seen in great detail including the way she felt in the acting.
We used non-diagetic sound throughout the whole sequence to create the mood of Lisa and practically the whole film. The non-diagetic sound we used is a soundtrack from Steve Howe labelled "The Clap". We chose this piece because it was a bubbly piece of music and we thought that it fit very well with the genre of film. We also decided to use a voiceover because with all the noise of passers-by in the environment it would make our film sound and probably look less professional. So by using the voiceover we solved the problem. Howver the first time we recorded the voiceover there was an eerie echo whilst we were recording which would give away the fact that it was recorded separately in a completely different environment. The first time we did the voiceover we used an ordinary video camera to record it and then import it to the film opening. But we had to re-record the voiceover using a Marantz voice recorder. We found that the recording with the Marantz sounded much more professional so we imported it to the actual film opening.
